The Texas Baptist Home for Children is an amazing agency that glorifies God in all that they do. TBHC’s ministry, Compassionate Hope, serves people across the world in Moldova. At the beginning of March 2023, Joanna and I traveled overseas to Moldova, and it was a trip that will be cherished forever. The country of Moldova is nestled between Romania and Ukraine. About a 12-hour flight will get you to Chisinau, which is the capital of Moldova. Once we safely landed, we made our way to our hotel a few miles outside of Chisinau in a small town called Cricova. We got a good night’s rest and woke up the next morning ready to fellowship and serve.
While in Moldova, Joanna and I led bible studies, trauma-based training for CPS workers, ladies’ events and distributions for Ukrainian refugees, and a bible story at an orphanage. During the bible studies and ladies’ events, we had the privilege of having discussions about being an overcomer and overcoming life’s challenges with God, as well as sharing the gospel with all of them. Some of the things we went further in detail with were sharing how God is always with us, God is all-knowing, and God is all-powerful. While leading the CPS training, we focused on the importance of teamwork and relationships in serving children and families. We provided information to the workers so they could take it and encourage their foster parents with new techniques. On the last day, we went to one of the orphanages and had the chance to interact with the children by playing different games and telling them the Bible story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den.

Each day we led a different event and traveled to other places, but the last day I would have to say was by far the day I enjoyed most. Imagine growing up in a village far away, in an old building full of rooms, and with siblings you don’t really know. This might be home to some, but for others looking in, it can seem far from that. Graveled roads and rolling hills brought us to one of the government-run orphanages still left in Moldova. From the moment our car pulled into the driveway, the joy on the children’s faces was instantly seen as soon as we stepped foot onto the property. As they anticipated seeing who it was, they gleamed with happiness. A simple wave caught their attention, and I knew this is where it all begins. A chance to share God’s love, a chance to devote intentional time with them, a chance to have fun, and a chance to love them. Overall, God’s work can continue to be seen not only in the state of Texas but also far from it, in the country of Moldova. He is greater than all things, He provides what is needed, and He cares deeply. Joanna and I look forward to continuing our journey overseas as we serve children, families, and workers.
